News4JAX, the Jacksonville-based television station operated by WJXT, has been named Overall Station of the Year by the Florida Association of Broadcast Journalists, marking one of the highest honours in the state’s annual journalism awards.
The recognition highlights the station’s performance across multiple reporting categories, including breaking news coverage, investigative journalism, economic reporting, and cultural features. Judges credited the newsroom’s consistent output and wide-ranging storytelling as key factors behind the award, which places News4JAX among the top-performing broadcast news organisations in Florida.
Alongside the station-wide accolade, News4JAX journalists received additional individual and team awards for their work across multimedia reporting and specialised news coverage. The station also earned recognition for its digital and storytelling innovation, reflecting its expansion beyond traditional broadcast formats into online and cross-platform journalism.
News director Robert Brown described the award as a reflection of the newsroom’s collective effort, emphasising the dedication of reporters, producers, and editors who contribute to daily coverage of local and statewide issues. He noted that the station’s long-standing focus on community reporting continues to shape its editorial identity and audience engagement.
The Florida Association of Broadcast Journalists awards are held annually to recognise excellence in television and radio journalism across the state. Entries are evaluated by panels of professional journalists from across the United States, with hundreds of submissions received each year from stations of varying market sizes.
This year’s results placed News4JAX alongside other leading Florida broadcasters that were recognised for strong coverage of public safety incidents, economic developments, and community-focused storytelling. The award for Overall Station of the Year is considered one of the most competitive categories, reflecting both editorial quality and newsroom consistency.
The win reinforces News4JAX’s position as a dominant news provider in the Jacksonville media market, where it has long maintained a strong audience presence through its daily newscasts and digital reporting platforms.
The recognition also comes amid broader industry pressures facing local television stations, including shifts in audience consumption and increased competition from digital-first news outlets, making statewide recognition a significant benchmark of newsroom performance.
