KRIS 6 News journalists have received top honors at the annual Texas Broadcast News Awards held in Austin, recognising strong performances across specialty reporting, multimedia journalism, and newsroom storytelling in one of the state’s most competitive broadcast journalism events.
The awards ceremony, organised by the Texas Association of Broadcasters, celebrates outstanding work produced by television and radio stations across Texas, with entries judged on reporting quality, production value, and impact on local communities.
This year, KRIS 6 reporters Bryan and Michelle Hofmann were awarded for Specialty/Beat Reporting, highlighting their focused coverage in key subject areas. Fellow journalist Adam Beam also earned recognition in the Multimedia Journalist category for his reporting work across digital and broadcast platforms.
KRIS 6 has built a consistent presence at statewide journalism competitions in recent years, often being recognised for investigative reporting, breaking news coverage, and public interest journalism that reflects issues affecting South Texas communities. The station’s newsroom has also previously received honours for investigative reporting that exposed local government and legal system concerns.
The Texas Broadcast News Awards remain one of the most significant annual benchmarks for broadcast journalism in the state, drawing submissions from large and small market stations alike. Judges have repeatedly highlighted the competitiveness of entries, noting strong storytelling standards and the growing importance of multimedia reporting across Texas newsrooms.
This year’s recognition for KRIS 6 underscores its continued emphasis on community-focused journalism and its expanding role in both traditional broadcasting and digital reporting formats. The awards also reflect broader trends in Texas media, where local stations are increasingly being recognised for adapting to changing audience expectations while maintaining strong investigative and field reporting standards.
Overall, the honours reinforce KRIS 6’s position as a key regional broadcaster in South Texas, with its journalists continuing to receive statewide acknowledgment for their contributions to broadcast journalism excellence.
