Journalists from The Guardian secured major victories across several categories at the 2026 Press Awards in London, earning recognition for investigations, feature writing, foreign reporting, and digital journalism. The awards ceremony, regarded as one of the most prestigious events in British journalism, brought together leading media organizations and reporters from across the United Kingdom.
The Guardian won Newspaper of the Year, with judges praising the publication for what they described as impactful investigations, international coverage, innovative storytelling, and public-interest reporting throughout the past year. According to comments released during the ceremony, judges highlighted the paper’s coverage of global conflicts, political accountability, and social issues as key factors behind the award.
Several Guardian journalists also received individual honors. Reporter Hannah Devlin won Science and Technology Journalist of the Year for coverage focused on medical research, artificial intelligence, and climate science. Foreign correspondent Emma Graham-Harrison received recognition for international reporting, particularly her coverage of conflicts and humanitarian crises in the Middle East and Asia.
The publication’s investigative teams were additionally recognized for collaborative reporting projects examining surveillance, political lobbying, and environmental issues. Judges commended The Guardian’s ability to combine investigative depth with accessible digital storytelling across multiple platforms.
The Press Awards are organized annually by the Society of Editors and honor excellence in British print and digital journalism. Categories include Journalist of the Year, Scoop of the Year, Front Page of the Year, and various specialized reporting fields such as politics, investigations, business, and culture.
The Guardian’s success came during a challenging period for the British media industry, which continues facing economic pressures, digital disruption, and debates surrounding press regulation and public trust in journalism. Despite these challenges, the newspaper has continued expanding its international audience through subscription growth and digital publishing initiatives.
Online reactions following the awards praised the newspaper’s investigative work and foreign correspondence, particularly its reporting on war zones and human rights issues. Critics of the publication, however, argued that parts of the British press remain politically polarized, reflecting broader public debates over media bias and journalistic independence in the United Kingdom.
