In a significant development, the Ghana Police Service has arrested Daniel Owusu Koranteng, also known as Akwasi Amakye, in connection with the 2019 murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale. Koranteng, a former colleague of Suale at Tiger Eye Private Investigations, is accused of leaking photographs of Suale to a prominent politician before his assassination.
Suale was shot dead near his family home in Madina on January 16, 2019, shortly after collaborating with the BBC on an exposé revealing corruption in Ghanaian football. The arrest follows a lengthy investigation, during which the FBI extracted crucial information from Suale’s phones, including phone records showing calls between Koranteng and Suale in the days leading up to the murder.
Koranteng had reportedly fled to the United Kingdom after the murder but secretly returned to Ghana in March 2025, where he was apprehended at Amasaman-Adease . He faces charges of murder and abetment to commit murder . The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has commended the police for their efforts and is closely monitoring the case to ensure justice is served.
This arrest marks a crucial step toward accountability in the case, which has drawn international attention to the safety of journalists in Ghana. The investigation continues as authorities work to identify any additional individuals involved in the crime.
