May 24, 2026May 24, 2026 – Bangladesh –
Bangladeshi journalist Md. Arif Uddin has received the Best Correspondent Crest during the 30th anniversary celebration of the Rangpur-based daily newspaper Daily Akhira, recognizing his contribution to local journalism and community reporting in northern Bangladesh.
The award was presented during a discussion and anniversary event held at the Rangpur Chamber of Commerce auditorium on Saturday. Advocate Rezeka Sultana Fency, a member of parliament representing a reserved women’s seat, handed over the honorary crest to Arif Uddin in front of journalists, academics, law enforcement officials, and local dignitaries attending the ceremony.
Arif Uddin currently serves as the Gaibandha District Correspondent for Daily Akhira and also works as the Palashbari Upazila Correspondent for Daily Ameer Somoy. Organizers of the event said the recognition was awarded for his consistent reporting and contribution to regional journalism over the years.
Several prominent figures attended the anniversary program, including Professor Shah Alam of Rangpur Carmichael College, former vice president Alauddin Mia, Assistant Superintendent of Police Nazir Hossain from Rangpur Metropolitan Police, Daily Akhira Editor and Publisher Machud-ur Rahman Milu, and Executive Editor Nurunnahar Machud Seema. Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of local journalism in informing communities and strengthening public awareness in regional areas.
During the program, organizers reflected on the newspaper’s three decades of publication and its role in covering social issues, politics, culture, and local development in Bangladesh’s northern districts. Participants also discussed challenges facing regional media outlets, including financial pressures, technological changes, and the safety of journalists working outside major urban centers.
This is not the first recognition received by Arif Uddin from the publication. In 2021, during the silver jubilee celebration of Daily Akhira, he was also awarded the Best Journalism Honor Crest for his reporting work and contribution to the newspaper’s coverage. Supporters and colleagues described his reporting as impactful and community-focused, particularly on issues affecting residents in Gaibandha and surrounding areas.
The award reflects continuing recognition for regional journalists in Bangladesh, where local correspondents often play a key role in documenting social issues and public concerns that receive limited national attention. Media observers say such honors help encourage grassroots journalism and acknowledge the contribution of reporters working in district and rural communities across the country.
