Filmmaker and journalist Shin Daewe was released on April 17, 2026, under a Myanmar military amnesty after more than 900 days in detention She was arrested in October 2023 in Yangon while receiving a drone for documentary work and later sentenced to life imprisonment under counterterrorism laws in a case widely condemned by press freedom groups Her sentence was later reduced to 15 years before she was included in a mass prisoner release Rights organizations welcomed her release but stressed it does not reflect systemic reform noting that many journalists remain imprisoned in Myanmar across the country under military rule.
