The proposed welfare scheme aims to improve financial security in journalism careers
The government of Bangladesh is planning to introduce a retirement allowance for senior journalists to address long-standing financial insecurity in the profession. Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon announced the initiative during a visit to an ailing journalist in Dhaka. The scheme aims to ensure dignity and stability in retirement, with plans to integrate it into existing welfare structures such as the Journalists Welfare Trust.
