Pakistani sports journalist Sanaullah Khan has publicly appealed to the country’s top leadership for urgent intervention after his brother was reportedly kidnapped in Lahore, in an incident that has sparked widespread concern across media and social platforms.
According to reports, Khan stated that his brother, Amanullah Khan, was abducted by unidentified individuals while on his way to pick up his children from school. He said several hours had passed without confirmation of his brother’s whereabouts, prompting him to seek immediate assistance from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
In a public video message, Khan urged authorities to act swiftly, noting that police had begun reviewing CCTV footage and tracing vehicles linked to the incident, though no concrete leads had been confirmed at the time.
The case has gained additional attention due to Khan’s previous professional disputes with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which had reportedly banned him following criticism of its leadership. Media reports note that he has suggested possible foul play, linking the incident to his journalistic work, although no official evidence supporting this claim has been confirmed.
Khan’s appeal has circulated widely online, with supporters and commentators calling for a transparent investigation and immediate recovery efforts. Social media discussions have also speculated about possible political motivations, reflecting heightened sensitivities around press freedom and personal safety for journalists in Pakistan.
Authorities have not yet issued a definitive public statement establishing the motive behind the abduction. Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the case, with early efforts focused on surveillance footage and local leads.
The incident underscores broader concerns raised by journalists’ associations about risks faced by media professionals in Pakistan, particularly those covering sports governance and institutional accountability. Advocacy voices have called for strengthened protections for journalists and faster response mechanisms in cases involving threats to their families.
As investigations continue, Khan’s case remains unresolved, with growing pressure on authorities to ensure both accountability and the safe recovery of his brother.
