Taliban Revokes Licences of Media Support Organizations in Afghanistan
January 27, 2026January 27, 2026 – Lebanon –
An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon on January 26, 2026, killed Ali Nour al-Din, a journalist and television presenter associated with the Hezbollah-linked Al-Manar TV network, Lebanese authorities and Hezbollah reported. The attack occurred in the city of Tyre, where an Israeli drone reportedly struck a vehicle carrying al-Din, who also served as a religious show host and community figure. Hezbollah condemned the killing as a “treacherous assassination” and warned that the escalation now targets members of the media community, drawing strong criticism from Lebanese officials who said Israeli strikes are affecting journalists and civilians alike. Lebanese Information Minister Paul Morcos described the attacks as indiscriminate, asserting that they “spare neither journalistic nor media crews.” The Israeli military later acknowledged the death, describing al-Din as a Hezbollah operative involved in artillery capabilities in southern Lebanon, a characterization disputed by Lebanese sources.
The strike on al-Din’s vehicle is part of a broader pattern of cross-border incidents between Israel and Lebanese armed groups, particularly Hezbollah, despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement that has been in place since November 2024. Israeli forces maintain positions south of the Litani River and have carried out regular strikes targeting what they say are militant infrastructure and personnel, a dynamic that continues to fuel tensions and occasional violence across the border.
Alongside the journalist’s death, separate Israeli drone and air attacks in recent months have killed other civilians in southern Lebanon, including members of the same family and residents in various towns. These operations, frequently justified by the Israeli military as counter-terrorism efforts against Hezbollah, have repeatedly drawn condemnation from Lebanese authorities and international actors, who describe the strikes as violations of Lebanese sovereignty and threats to civilian safety.
The recent killing of a media professional highlights rising concerns about the safety of journalists operating in conflict zones along the Israel-Lebanon border. Reports indicate that journalists and media workers have been wounded or killed in similar incidents during the broader conflict. The incident underscores ongoing disputes over ceasefire compliance and the challenges of limiting hostilities in a region where armed groups and state actors remain in a volatile stalemate.
