Journalists Injured and Missing in the Israel–Gaza War
September 26, 2025September 26, 2025 – Palestine –
The Palestinian Journalists Protection Center (PJPC) condemned the arrest of 27-year-old journalist Yasser Jaradat, who works as a reporter and photographer for Palestine Post and other local media outlets. Jaradat was seized in a dawn raid on his home in Sa’ir, north of al-Khalil (Hebron), and taken by Israeli occupation forces to an undisclosed location.
The PJPC characterized the arrest as part of “a systematic Israeli policy aimed at intimidating journalists and silencing the truth” in the occupied territories. It said that violations against Palestinian media professionals have surged this year, with some 82 documented cases including arrests, detentions, and harassment—many of them in towns across the West Bank.
According to PJPC, 49 Palestinian journalists are currently held in Israeli prisons. Since 7 October 2023, approximately 55 journalists have been arrested, with 22 kept under administrative detention without formal charges. Since that date, PJPC has recorded 192 cases of arrest, detentions, or interrogations targeting media workers.
The rights group raised serious concerns about detention practices, pointing to ill-treatment, insults, torture, interrogations without charges, and denial of legal counsel. It called these actions clear violations of international human rights norms, including Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which protects freedom of expression.
PJPC urged Israel to immediately and unconditionally release all detained journalists, especially those held without charge, and to open transparent and independent investigations into abuses against media workers. The group also appealed to the United Nations and the Human Rights Council to pressure Israel, as an occupying power, to uphold its obligations under humanitarian law by safeguarding press freedom and protecting journalists in conflict zones.
