A gathering of Turkish and American media professionals was held in New York during the Global Journalism Council’s International Media Friendship Awards ceremony at Turkish House. The event, hosted by the Turkish Consulate General, celebrated the contributions of journalists covering Turkish-American relations, US affairs, the United Nations, and more.
Türkiye’s Consul General in New York, Muhittin Ahmet Yazal, underscored the importance of media in public diplomacy. He thanked the journalists present, recognizing the work of those covering different beats—some reporting on the Turkish-American community, others focusing on the US or the UN. Mehmet Ali Dim, President of the Global Journalism Council, described the awardees as valuable voices, emphasizing that the organisation goes beyond being a professional body to supporting diplomacy through journalism.

In addition to the awards, the ceremony featured the opening of an exhibition titled “America in Türkiye: 1910-1970”, showcasing archival materials, press clippings, and rare objects that trace aspects of Turkish-American relations. Curated by Ozgenur Reyhan Guler of Istinye University, the display includes the private archive of Sefer Darici from Sivas Cumhuriyet University and is open until September 20.
