Bangladeshi Journalists Attacked While Covering Land Dispute in Muradnagar

Palestinian journalist Marwa Muslim, a broadcaster at Al‑Shabab Radio in Gaza City, has been found dead at her home in the Al‑Shuja’iya district. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate announced the discovery of her body on Friday. Muslim hosted the morning program Bashaer al‑Sabah (Morning Tidings) and the social affairs show That (Self), marking her as one of Gaza’s prominent female radio voices.
Her death raises the confirmed total of journalists and media personnel killed in Gaza since the outbreak of war on October 7, 2023, to 232. The previous fatality reported was photojournalist Ibrahim Hajjaj.
Muslim’s killing shows the acute dangers facing media workers in Gaza, where attacks on civilians and journalists have intensified amid military operations and urban bombardment. Media groups blame Israel’s aggressive campaign for targeting journalists through bombardment of homes, media facilities, and public areas. The homicide occurred amid a broader pattern of lethal violence that has made Gaza the deadliest conflict zone for journalists globally.
Authorities have not disclosed the precise circumstances of Muslim’s death, but the home’s location in heavily bombarded Al‑Shuja’iya suggests she may have been killed in a strike targeting civilian residences. Rescue efforts in the area have reportedly been hampered by ongoing shelling and rubble blockages.
Her death reverberated within Gaza’s press community, many of whose members continue covering the crisis amid severe shortages of fuel, food, and communication tools under siege conditions. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate and international press freedom organizations swiftly condemned her death, demanding a transparent investigation, accountability for perpetrators, and stronger safeguards for Gaza-based journalists.
As the death toll among media professionals mounts, observers warn that Gaza’s unjustified restrictions, attacks on press infrastructure, and failure to protect reporters are intensifying the erasure of independent eyewitness coverage. Muslim’s passing is yet another tragic marker of the escalating crisis faced by those trying to keep the world informed from inside Gaza.
