Concern is growing in South Africa’s media community following the disappearance of journalist Sibusiso Aserie Ndlovu and his partner, Zodwa Precious Mdhluli. The two have been missing since February 18, 2025, sparking a wave of anxiety among colleagues, family members, and press freedom advocates.
Ndlovu, a well-known journalist and founder of Capital Live SA 99.0 FM, was last seen in Mamelodi, Gauteng. His partner was reportedly last seen in KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga. Both vanished without a trace, and nearly three months later, there is still no confirmed information about their whereabouts.
Initial reports indicated that their disappearance may have involved foul play, with law enforcement officials launching an investigation into their sudden disappearance. The South African Police Service confirmed that multiple individuals had been taken in for questioning in connection with the case. Despite this, no official details have been released about possible motives or the circumstances leading up to their disappearance.
The case has deeply unsettled the media fraternity. Ndlovu was respected not only for his work as a journalist but also for his dedication to uplifting young voices through radio. His absence is being felt not only by his family and friends but also by the broader community that depended on his leadership and reporting.
Calls for answers are growing louder. Media organizations, including advocacy groups for journalists’ safety, have urged the authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation. For many, the lack of concrete updates has been particularly distressing, raising concerns about journalist safety in the country.
At present, the fate of Ndlovu and Mdhluli remains unknown. While investigations continue, their disappearance highlights the precarious environment in which many journalists operate — one where simply doing their job can put them at risk. As the search continues, loved ones and colleagues hold onto hope, demanding justice and clarity about what happened to two lives that vanished so suddenly and mysteriously.
