A two-day leadership training workshop for women journalists concluded successfully in Pakistan, bringing together media professionals from across the country to strengthen leadership capabilities, ethical reporting practices, and gender-responsive approaches in newsrooms. Organised by the Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) with support from national media partners, the event took place from December 28 to 29, 2025, at the National Press Club in Islamabad.
The workshop aimed to empower women in journalism by equipping participants with practical tools and strategic insights essential for navigating editorial leadership roles and advancing in media careers. Over the course of two days, attendees engaged in interactive sessions on topics such as media management, ethical decision-making, newsroom diversity, digital security, and audience engagement strategies. Facilitators included senior editors, media trainers, and gender specialists who shared both theoretical frameworks and real-world experiences.
A key focus of the programme was enhancing participants’ confidence and professional agency, particularly in environments where women journalists often face structural barriers to advancement. Sessions on leadership styles, negotiation skills, and career planning provided journalists with actionable guidance on how to assert editorial influence, manage teams effectively, and pursue senior roles within their organisations.
The training also emphasised gender-sensitive reporting, underscoring the importance of inclusive storytelling that reflects diverse perspectives and challenges societal stereotypes. Facilitators encouraged participants to integrate gender analysis into their reporting and to serve as champions for equitable coverage in their respective media outlets.
In addition to classroom-style learning, the workshop facilitated networking opportunities that enabled women journalists to build professional connections and support systems across regions and media platforms. Participants cited these interactions as one of the most valuable aspects of the event, noting that peer exchange fosters collaboration and solidarity in addressing shared challenges.
At the closing ceremony, organisers highlighted the importance of sustained investment in women’s leadership in media and affirmed plans to continue similar capacity-building initiatives in 2026. Several participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to enhance their skills and noted that the workshop had inspired them to pursue leadership pathways with renewed confidence.
The successful conclusion of the leadership training workshop reflects ongoing efforts within Pakistan’s media community to promote gender equity and strengthen the role of women journalists as influential voices in public discourse.
