Recent analyses highlight a disturbing alliance between the Palestinian Authority (PA), Israel, and several Arab governments aimed at suppressing Palestinian dissent and obstructing the truth about the ongoing occupation. According to Al Jazeera’s Eman Mohammed, the PA has consistently worked alongside Israel to silence independent journalists and restrict freedom of expression. Drawing from personal experience in Gaza, Mohammed describes how the PA’s security forces targeted journalists, activists, and critics to maintain political control and avoid challenging Israeli authority. This partnership allows Israel to outsource much of the internal repression in the West Bank and Gaza, enabling it to maintain its occupation while minimizing international scrutiny. The Middle East Monitor further explores this dynamic, asserting that the PA was originally created to perform Israel’s “dirty work.” Since its establishment through the Oslo Accords, the PA has served as a buffer between Israel and the Palestinian population. Its security coordination with Israel has led to joint crackdowns on protests, arrests of activists, and suppression of political opposition. Rather than advancing Palestinian liberation, the PA often acts as an enforcer of Israeli policy, prioritizing its own survival and privileges over the national interest. The Palestine Chronicle extends this critique to include the role of Arab governments. While publicly supporting the Palestinian cause, many Arab states have quietly aligned with Israeli interests. Some have actively lobbied against initiatives that would strengthen Palestinian sovereignty or rebuild Gaza on Palestinian terms. Their silence or complicity reflects broader regional interests that prioritize alliances with Israel and Western powers over genuine support for Palestinian rights.
Together, these forces form a system that undermines Palestinian self-determination and shields Israel from accountability. The PA’s security apparatus, Israeli military dominance, and Arab political calculations converge to suppress dissent, restrict media freedom, and stifle the voices of Palestinians demanding justice.
Breaking this system would require the PA to end its security coordination, Israel to cease its occupation and censorship, and Arab states to genuinely support Palestinian sovereignty. Without such changes, the silencing of Palestinian voices will continue, leaving the reality of occupation hidden from much of the world.
