Sudanese journalist and political analyst Osman Mirghani has called for deeper cooperation and constructive dialogue between Sudan and Ethiopia amid ongoing regional tensions and instability. Speaking during a media discussion focused on relations between the neighboring countries, Mirghani stressed that diplomacy and mutual understanding remain essential for addressing political and security challenges affecting the Horn of Africa.
Mirghani emphasized the historical and geographic ties linking Sudan and Ethiopia, arguing that both nations share strategic interests that require sustained collaboration rather than confrontation. He noted that political instability and armed conflict in the region have created broader humanitarian and economic consequences, making cooperation increasingly important for regional security and development.
The journalist highlighted the importance of communication channels between governments, civil society groups, and regional actors in reducing tensions and preventing further escalation. He also stated that stronger bilateral relations could contribute to improving border stability, trade opportunities, and humanitarian coordination between the two countries.
During his remarks, Mirghani pointed to the role of media and journalism in encouraging dialogue and reducing political polarization. He argued that responsible reporting can help promote understanding between neighboring societies while discouraging narratives that intensify hostility or misinformation. According to him, journalists have a responsibility to support peaceful solutions by presenting balanced coverage of regional disputes and political developments.
The discussion comes as Sudan continues to face internal conflict and humanitarian challenges, while relations between Sudan and Ethiopia have also been shaped by disputes involving border territories and regional political dynamics. Observers have repeatedly warned that prolonged instability in the Horn of Africa could affect broader regional security and economic conditions.
Mirghani also underlined the importance of regional partnerships in confronting shared issues such as displacement, economic pressures, and cross-border security concerns. He said cooperation between neighboring countries is necessary to address challenges that cannot be resolved through unilateral approaches.
His comments have attracted attention within regional media discussions focused on diplomacy and conflict resolution in East Africa. Supporters of stronger Sudan-Ethiopia engagement argue that sustained dialogue could help reduce tensions and contribute to long-term regional stability during a period of continued uncertainty across the Horn of Africa.
