Hundreds of South Koreans and Palestine solidarity supporters gathered on August 30, 2025, in Seoul, staging a protest outside the Israeli Embassy. Demonstrators condemned the recent bombing of a Gaza hospital on August 25, which resulted in the targeted killing of journalists as well as more than a dozen other victims. The gathering decried the attack as emblematic of a broader pattern of violence and genocide.
Organizers and activists—advocating for global solidarity with Gaza—branded the hospital strike not as collateral damage but as a deliberate assault on press freedom. Protesters held placards and chanted slogans denouncing Israel, calling for international accountability amid mounting civilian and media casualties.
Among those voicing dissent was President Lee Jae‑myung, who was criticized by some activists for labeling U.S. President Donald Trump a “peacemaker,” a comment they viewed as tone-deaf given ongoing atrocities.
This demonstration in Seoul reflects a broader expansion of international outrage—South Korea’s vibrant civic groups have joined a growing transnational movement urging an end to wartime impunity. Since the Gaza conflict escalated in October 2023, journalists have repeatedly come under threat, with the Gaza war regarded as the deadliest on record for media workers. Group rallies, cultural expressions, and one-person protests outside embassies have solidified into organized networks demanding justice and transparency.
The Seoul protest stands as another chapter in widespread demonstrations—across Asia, Europe, and beyond—highlighting a shared concern for press rights and humanitarian obligations being violated amid conflict.
