A woman from Slidell, Louisiana, has been arrested in connection with the February 2025 death of Adan Manzano, a 27-year-old Telemundo reporter from Kansas City. Manzano was found dead in a Kenner hotel room during his assignment covering Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
The suspect, 48-year-old Danette Colbert, was taken into custody after authorities reviewed surveillance footage showing her entering Manzano’s hotel room early in the morning and leaving alone an hour later. Shortly after her departure, Manzano was found deceased. An autopsy later confirmed that he died by suffocation, and toxicology reports indicated the presence of alcohol and Xanax in his system.
Colbert was arrested after using Manzano’s credit card at multiple retail locations. A subsequent search of her home revealed his stolen credit card and cellphone. She now faces charges of second-degree murder, theft, and fraud. Colbert is being held without bond as the investigation continues. Law enforcement also revealed that Colbert has a criminal history involving similar crimes in both New Orleans and Las Vegas, where she allegedly drugged and robbed men she encountered.
In a recent update to the case, two additional suspects have been arrested. Ricky White, 34, faces charges including robbery and fraudulent use of access cards, while Christian Anderson, 33, is believed to have rented the vehicle used in the crime and provided logistical support. Authorities believe the incident was not random but part of a pattern of targeted crimes against visitors in the New Orleans area.
The Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office is currently preparing formal charges against all three suspects. Officials emphasize that the investigation is ongoing and have asked the public to share any relevant information.
Manzano’s death has sent shockwaves through the journalism community. He was described by colleagues as a rising star known for his dedication and warmth. His family and coworkers continue to seek justice as the case develops, drawing national attention to growing concerns over tourist-targeted crimes in Louisiana.
