Silas Ochieng’ Apollo, a respected Kenyan journalist formerly with NTV and most recently with The Nairobi Law Monthly, tragically passed away following a road accident on April 9, 2025. The incident occurred along Kiambu Road in Nairobi, where Apollo was struck by a speeding motorcycle while attempting to cross the road. He was initially taken to St. Teresa’s Hospital and later transferred to Kiambu Level 6 Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
An autopsy conducted at City Mortuary revealed that Apollo succumbed to severe head injuries caused by blunt force trauma, along with two broken ribs and multiple bruises on his body. The report also noted significant internal bleeding as the cause of death.
At the time of the accident, Apollo did not have any identification documents on him, which delayed the notification of his family. They were informed of his death three days later, on April 12, after a concerned relative contacted his phone and was answered by an officer at the Kiambu Police Station.
Apollo’s untimely death has sent shockwaves through Kenya’s media fraternity. Colleagues and friends remember him as a dedicated journalist with a passion for uncovering the truth. His career spanned nearly a decade, during which he covered parliamentary affairs, current events, and business news, earning a reputation for insightful reporting.
The circumstances surrounding the accident have raised concerns about road safety and the protection of pedestrians in Nairobi. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, including efforts to trace the motorcyclist involved.
Apollo’s body was transported to his ancestral home in Kabuoro sub-location, Rongo, Migori County, for burial. His passing is a significant loss to the journalism community, highlighting the risks journalists face and the need for improved safety measures on Kenyan roads.
