Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, speaking at a press conference, praised the courageous work of Palestinian journalists amid the ongoing Gaza war. He emphasized their critical role in “publishing the facts that the occupation tried to hide,” documenting child casualties, hospital bombings, starvation tactics, and forced displacement—efforts he said were vital for preserving truth and holding Israel accountable.. He highlighted that these journalists courageously brought Gaza’s narrative and humanitarian realities to the world, under extremely dangerous conditions.
The remarks reinforced President Mahmoud Abbas’s support for the journalists, acknowledging the severe suffering in Gaza and the vital role the media plays in conveying that pain to the global community.
In a related report from Al-Quds English, Palestinian human rights advocates raised grave concerns after the killing of veteran journalist Hassan Aslih. According to media sources, he was shot and killed inside his treatment room at Nasser Medical Complex during an Israeli drone strike. Aslih had been wounded earlier and was receiving care in the hospital when he was killed, underscoring the alarming reach of this conflict’s violence, even into medical facilities.
Human rights groups condemned this strike as deliberate, aimed at silencing journalists who risk their lives to report from Gaza’s most dangerous zones. Aslih’s death adds to a mounting toll of journalist fatalities in Gaza, where media workers remain under constant threat, even as they continue reporting from amid chaos and devastation.
These two stories together capture a stark dichotomy: Palestinian authorities are publicly affirming the bravery and significance of journalists, while the reality on the ground shows that these same reporters face life-threatening risks. From documenting humanitarian crises to suffering targeted strikes—even within medical facilities—journalists in Gaza operate under extreme peril, making their continued work both heroic and tragically costly.
