The M-A Chronicle, the student-run online newspaper of Menlo-Atherton High School, has been honored with the 2025 Online Pacemaker Award by the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA), one of the highest accolades in high school journalism. Announced on April 26, the award recognizes the Chronicle as one of 13 recipients nationwide for its outstanding digital journalism.
Co-Editor-in-Chief Celine Chien expressed pride in the team’s dedication, stating, “We’ve continuously worked to perfect our grammatical standards, polish our article flow, and make sure our photos look sharp, so it’s gratifying to receive this award and see the thousands of hours editors and journalists have put in being recognized.”
Journalism advisor John McBlair highlighted the collaborative effort behind the publication’s success: “Every story is the product of a team working together. It’s a group effort, and I’m incredibly proud of how seriously everyone takes their role as a journalist.”
The Chronicle has a history of excellence, having previously won the Online Pacemaker Award in 2016 and 2021, and being named a finalist in 2019 and 2024. The NSPA evaluates entries based on various criteria, including design, writing, and photography, to honor publications that demonstrate journalistic excellence.
This recognition underscores the Chronicle’s commitment to delivering high-quality journalism and its role in fostering the next generation of journalists.
