Israeli journalist Yaniv Magal has sparked widespread outrage after posting footage of Israeli soldiers watching his television program inside a Palestinian home during a military raid in the West Bank. The video, shared on Magal’s Telegram channel on January 31, 2025, shows more than 10 armed soldiers gathered in a Palestinian living room in the northern West Bank, reportedly in Tulkarem, while his show aired on the television. The soldiers are seen casually moving around the room, turning the raid scene into what many critics have described as a disturbing display of dominance and insensitivity.
Magal, a journalist with Channel 14, which is known for its right-wing leanings and close ties to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, confirmed that the footage was recorded in the northern West Bank but did not specify the exact location. His decision to publicize the video has been condemned by Palestinians and human rights organizations, who argue that it highlights the dehumanizing nature of Israeli military operations and the normalization of occupying Palestinian homes.
The incident took place amid intensified Israeli military operations across the West Bank, particularly in the Jenin, Tulkarem, and Tubas regions. Since January 21, 2025, dozens of Palestinians have been killed in these raids, including at least 10 people in Tammun, 19 in Jenin, and several others in Tulkarem, with many more injured and arrested. Homes have been demolished, and widespread fear has gripped local communities as airstrikes and ground assaults continue.
The footage also reignited debates over the role of Israeli media in covering military operations, with many accusing outlets like Channel 14 of blurring the lines between journalism and propaganda. Critics argue that such coverage portrays military raids as heroic actions, often overlooking the human cost to Palestinian civilians.
The video has become a symbol of the power imbalance and ongoing oppression in the occupied territories, drawing international attention to the ethical implications of using civilian homes as settings for military occupation and media spectacle.
