Bangladeshi Journalists Facing Intensified Danger Under Interim Government

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) has revealed that August 2025 was one of the deadliest months for media workers in Palestine. According to their report, Israeli forces killed 15 journalists, including three women—Marwa Muslim, Mariam Abu Daqa, and Islam Abed—marking a devastating blow to press freedom in the occupied territories.
Beyond the fatalities, the PJS documented a staggering 86 violations against media professionals across the West Bank and Gaza Strip. These violations spanned physical assaults, arrests, intimidation tactics, and impediments to safe reporting—exposing how journalists today face risks not just at conflict frontlines but from pervasive restrictions on their work.
These deaths occurred against the backdrop of one of the most lethal conflicts for journalists in modern history. The Gaza war, which began in October 2023, has already claimed the lives of over 220 Palestinian media workers, according to international media watchdogs.
August’s death toll was particularly pronounced in two tragic incidents: a “double-tap” strike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, which killed several journalists, and the targeted assassination of Al Jazeera reporter Anas al-Sharif at a media tent near Al-Shifa Hospital during an airstrike.
For press freedom advocates, the PJS report is a chilling reminder that journalists are being systematically endangered—and too often silenced—in a conflict marked by escalating humanitarian catastrophe. These killings not only deny communities vital eyewitness reporting but also chill the few remaining independent voices covering the war.
The figures presented by the PJS demand urgent international attention. As the Gaza war shows no sign of abating, protecting media workers—and securing accountability for those who target them—has never been more crucial.
