Tehran hosted a poignant international summit titled “Assassination of Truth”, commemorating over 200 journalists from Gaza and Lebanon who were killed by Israeli fire in the past year. The emotionally charged event featured coverage by Iranian state media, including Press TV and Tehran Times.
Iranian media figures—such as IRIB director Peyman Jebelli—spoke at the summit, offering tributes to the fallen reporters and repeating sentiments like Hezbollah’s Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s proclamation that “the time of victory has come”. Hundreds of local and international journalists, media activists, academics, and diplomats participated, paying homage through speeches, memorials, and symbolic rituals marking journalists’ sacrifices.
The summit underscored a broader reality: dozens of journalists in Gaza have been killed while clearly identified in press vests or positioned away from combat zones—highlighting targeted attacks on media workers who bear witness to conflict. Organizers emphasized the global obligation of the media to protect truth and honor those who lost their lives bringing first-hand accounts from conflict zones.
This gathering is part of a broader series of memorials—such as Tehran’s recent “Red Subjects” ceremony—that continue to pay tribute to martyred journalists and reiterate the message that silencing reporters equals silencing truth.
By convening this summit, Tehran’s hosts sent a dual message: mourning the profound human cost paid by journalists, and issuing a symbolic rebuke toward perpetrators of violence against the press. The summit also served as a rallying call, urging international protection mechanisms to hold accountable those responsible for killing media workers and to preserve the essential role journalists play in bearing witness during warfare.
