A 35-year-old freelance journalist and photographer was found brutally murdered near Kihoto Estate in Naivasha, Kenya, in a case that has shocked residents and prompted a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. Authorities discovered the victim’s body on February 25, 2026, about a kilometre from Naivasha town, after residents alerted police to a suspicious scene near a parked vehicle.
According to witnesses, the man’s car was found with its doors open a few metres from where his body lay, suggesting a violent struggle had taken place. Blood was visible at the scene, reinforcing suspicions that the killing occurred there before the perpetrators fled. A resident who first saw the scene said the victim’s face had deep cuts consistent with an attack using a sharp object, indicating the brutality of the assault.
Police later confirmed that the victim worked as a freelance journalist involved in photography in Nairobi. Investigators said the killing was particularly disturbing because the victim’s throat and tongue had been cut out, pointing to an extremely violent attack. Officers identified the man using documents recovered from his clothing and transported the body to the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Naivasha’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) chief Isaac Kiama described the incident as a “beastly murder” and said detectives had begun pursuing several leads. Authorities established that the vehicle found at the scene had been hired in Nairobi, and police are coordinating with the victim’s relatives and the car rental company as part of the investigation. Investigators also collected various items from both the vehicle and the surrounding area that may provide clues about the suspects or the events leading to the killing.
The motive for the murder remains unclear, and police have not yet announced any arrests. However, officials say the investigation is ongoing and that forensic evidence recovered from the scene may help identify those responsible. The killing has intensified concerns about safety in the area and the vulnerability of media workers who often travel alone while gathering news or photographic material.
Authorities have urged members of the public with information about the incident to come forward, emphasizing that solving the case will depend on cooperation between investigators and the community. The case remains under active investigation as detectives attempt to determine both the perpetrators and the motive behind the killing.
