“The Israel Exception”: Samira Mohyeddin to Tackle Media Crisis over Gaza in NB Media Co-op Keynote
September 9, 2025
Meet the Storyteller: Walt Harrington at Carlinville Public Library
September 9, 2025On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Amnesty International UK will hold a solemn vigil to honour the more than 240 Palestinian journalists and media workers killed in Gaza since October 2023—the most lethal conflict for journalists on record. The event marks exactly one month since a single Israeli airstrike tragically claimed the lives of six Al Jazeera journalists. Each of those lost will be remembered through the lighting of over 240 candles, a powerful visual tribute to their sacrifice.
Wael Al-Dahdouh, Al Jazeera’s Gaza Bureau Chief and a symbol of resilience amid unspeakable personal loss, will deliver a poignant address. Scheduled for 6:00 p.m., his speech—expected to last ten minutes—testifies to the systematic targeting of journalists during the ongoing Gaza crisis. Al-Dahdouh’s presence carries profound weight: in October 2023, he lost his wife, two children, and other relatives in an airstrike. He continues to bear the trauma of those losses while remaining a steadfast voice for truth. Media interviews will not take place during the vigil.
