Birmingham City University Launches New NCTJ-Accredited Journalism Course
May 20, 2026Qatar News Agency (QNA) has launched a specialized five-day training programme focused on field reporting, crisis journalism, and the use of artificial intelligence in modern media work. The initiative, titled “The Journalist Correspondent: Field Reporting,” forms part of QNA’s 2026 media training strategy aimed at strengthening journalism skills and preparing reporters for fast-changing newsroom environments.
The course is being led by Mohammed Al-Hadi Karmous, a senior editor and media expert at QNA, and targets journalists, correspondents, and media professionals involved in news coverage, live reporting, interviewing, and crisis communication. Organizers stated that the programme is designed to improve on-the-ground reporting capabilities while helping journalists adapt to the increasing role of digital tools and AI-powered technologies in news production.
Training sessions focus on several areas of contemporary journalism, including breaking news coverage, event and conference reporting, teamwork in newsrooms, and managing media operations during emergencies and crises. Participants are also receiving instruction on the use of smartphone applications, AI-assisted reporting tools, and digital technologies that support faster and more accurate field journalism.
According to QNA, the programme reflects wider efforts in Qatar to modernize media training and equip journalists with skills needed for increasingly digital and technology-driven news environments. Organizers emphasized that AI tools are becoming an important part of journalism workflows, particularly in areas such as information gathering, content verification, rapid publishing, and live coverage coordination.
The initiative also comes amid broader national discussions in Qatar surrounding AI, digital transformation, and the future of media. Recent collaborations involving Qatari media institutions, technology organizations, and journalism training centers have increasingly focused on integrating artificial intelligence into newsroom operations and media education.
QNA stated that the training programme is part of its long-term effort to develop national media competencies and improve professional standards across the journalism sector. The agency’s training halls, launched in 2023 with advanced technological infrastructure, continue to host programmes aimed at supporting journalists and media professionals as the industry adapts to evolving technological and editorial demands.
