Armenian Journalists’ Team Heads to Lithuania for European Championship
September 9, 2025Join celebrated journalist and author Walt Harrington for a free, one-hour presentation on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Carlinville Public Library, located at 505 North Broad Street.
Harrington, a former writer for The Washington Post Magazine and later a professor at the University of Illinois, moved to Carlinville with his wife in 2022. In his talk, he will delve into his 2022 book, The Detective: And Other True Stories, a collection of eight deeply reported narrative nonfiction pieces from his time at the magazine. The evening promises insights into his creative process, the origins of his stories, and reflections from the subjects themselves.
As part of the program, Harrington will read excerpts from selected articles and host a book-signing session afterward. His work is known for its human-centered profiles—he has penned pieces on figures such as Rosa Parks, Carl Bernstein, Jesse Jackson, Rita Dove, and President George H.W. Bush. Among his published works are Crossings: A White Man’s Journey into Black America and Guns, Friendship, and Family.
