Applications are now open—until September 14, 2025—for the newly launched International Civil Society Week (ICSW) Journalist Fellowship 2025, offering journalists worldwide a fully funded opportunity to participate in one of the most significant global civil society gatherings.
What Is ICSW?
ICSW is the world’s largest assembly of civil society actors, convened by CIVICUS, a global civil society alliance with over 15,000 members across 175+ countries. Co-organized with the Asia Democracy Network (ADN), the 2025 edition will take place November 1–5, 2025, in Bangkok, Thailand. Grounded in a legacy dating to the 1995 CIVICUS World Assemblies, ICSW offers a vibrant forum of conferences, workshops, trainings, and cultural programs—especially timely amid rising global threats to civic freedoms.
Fellowship Details & Benefits
- What’s Covered: Selected fellows (15–20 journalists globally) will receive fully funded travel and accommodation to attend the event.
- Networking Access: Fellows will engage directly with civil society leaders, activists, and global advocates during ICSW, including exclusive receptions and interview opportunities.
- Reporting Requirement: Each fellow is expected to produce and publish at least two pieces (any format) centered on ICSW and the broader theme of civic freedoms, drawing from their on-the-ground experience across the event.
Who Can Apply?
- Journalist Fellowship: Open to professionals of any age, with a strong editorial portfolio and demonstrated interest in civic space/human rights coverage.
- Young Journalist Fellowship: Tailored for journalists under 30—including citizen journalists and digital media creators passionate about rights issues and audience engagement.
