CIJN Journalists Take Top Excellence Awards in IAPA and CBU Ceremonies
September 15, 2025The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) will celebrate the resilient work of global journalists at its 35th International Press Freedom Awards, taking place on November 20, 2025, in New York City.
This year’s honorees represent courage under pressure from China, Ecuador, Kyrgyzstan, Tunisia, and one champion of U.S. press freedom. The lineup includes:
- Dong Yuyu (China), imprisoned on espionage charges after a 2022 arrest.
- Elvira del Pilar Nole and Juan Carlos Tito (Ecuador), who fled to safety abroad after threats linked to their investigations into drug gangs.
- Bolot Temirov (Kyrgyzstan), now in exile, is known for bold anti-corruption reporting and leading a team that exposed high-level abuses despite reprisals.
- Sonia Dahmani (Tunisia) is a courageous media commentator serving prison time on politically charged anti-state accusations.
- David McCraw (USA) was awarded the Gwen Ifill Press Freedom Award for his long-standing legal advocacy to protect press freedom and support journalists in dangerous situations.
This year’s ceremony will also include a tribute to journalists killed during the Israel-Gaza war, marking the deadliest period for reporters CPJ has recorded in a conflict.
Join CPJ and its partners as they honor these individuals whose voices persist despite censorship, exile, and imprisonment, an affirmation that pressing on against intimidation remains crucial.
