International Media Freedom Mission Arrives in Bulgaria
September 23, 2025Entries are now officially open for the 14th British Journalism Awards, the UK’s leading celebration of public interest journalism. Journalists from across the industry—whether from local newspapers, independent podcasts, or major international outlets—are invited to submit their work before the deadline of 25 September 2025.
This year’s awards dinner will take place on 11 December at the London Hilton Bankside, once again hosted by Radio 2 presenter Jeremy Vine. The event will showcase the best reporting of the past year, with particular recognition for journalism that brings important new information to light, demonstrates exceptional skill, and makes a positive difference.
A total of 26 categories are open, covering fields as diverse as politics, health, business, technology, foreign affairs, crime, and sports. Among them are the five premier awards: Public Service Journalism, Scoop of the Year, News Provider of the Year, Investigation of the Year, and Journalist of the Year. These headline awards will be presented through a special video showcase during the ceremony.
The judging panel is made up of around 80 independent experts, ensuring integrity and rigour in the decision-making process. Submissions will be reviewed remotely before final jury sessions take place in person. According to Press Gazette editor-in-chief Dominic Ponsford, the awards are designed not only to honour impactful journalism but also to spotlight the courageous individuals behind it, often working at significant personal risk.
The British Journalism Awards also include categories such as The Marie Colvin Award, named in memory of the Sunday Times correspondent killed in Syria in 2012, which recognises outstanding emerging talent. Other categories focus on innovation, online video journalism, local reporting, social affairs, diversity, and inclusion.
All work submitted must have been published between 1 September 2024 and 31 August 2025. Entry fees remain frozen from last year, with concessions for regional organisations, freelancers, and free entry for the Marie Colvin category.
Income from the awards helps fund Press Gazette’s mission to support the future of quality journalism in the digital age.
