Israeli Journalist Investigated for Celebrating Deaths of IDF Soldiers
July 8, 2025July 08, 2025 – Palestine/Israel –
In Gaza, where bombardments continue with relentless intensity, a group of Palestinian journalists is defying death to document a war that has already claimed more than 57,000 lives and wounded over 134,500. An editorial written by journalists Emad Drimly and Sanaa Kamal, published by Xinhua, offers a haunting and powerful reflection on the experiences of Gaza’s press corps—those who run toward danger while the world often looks away.
Since the start of Israel’s military operations on October 7, 2023, at least 220 Palestinian journalists have been killed, many while reporting in the field or sheltering in their homes with family. These reporters do not wear body armor funded by foreign press agencies; they wear courage and urgency as protection. One journalist, Reziq Abdul Jawad, says his camera is like a shield—not for his body, but for memory. “It won’t stop the bombs,” he explains, “but it makes sure the world sees what’s being done here.”
Their mission is more than journalism. It is resistance, testimony, and preservation of truth in a landscape where so many are dying not only in body, but in silence. One Xinhua photographer, Khader Abu Kwaik, movingly confessed: “I fear not death, but dying unseen.” His words encapsulate the emotional core of Gaza’s media community—an unyielding will to remain visible, to tell the story, to ensure the lives lost are not statistics but human tragedies that deserve remembrance.
Even under siege, Gaza’s journalists remain undeterred. They continue their work without power, without pay, often without rest. They photograph bombed hospitals, interview the bereaved, and live inside the very horrors they are documenting. They do so not for awards or recognition, but to make sure the world cannot claim ignorance.
These journalists are not just covering history—they are becoming part of it. Their courage speaks louder than the missiles that try to silence them. In a warzone where truth is often buried alongside its victims, Gaza’s journalists insist on bearing witness. And in doing so, they are keeping the conscience of the world alive.
