Gaza Journalist Inas Ramadan Killed; UN Warns No Place Is Safe
October 6, 2025October 06, 2025 – Palestine/UK –
Veteran British journalist and activist Yvonne Ridley, 67, has gone missing after being detained by Israeli forces during a humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza.
Ridley had joined the Global Sumud Flotilla, a convoy carrying aid intended for Gaza. The flotilla was intercepted in international waters by Israeli forces, who detained participants from about 40 vessels. After capture, she was held in Ketziot Prison in the Negev desert, reportedly refusing substitute medications after her own was confiscated. She was placed on a hunger strike amid what her family and supporters describe as harsh treatment.
It had been announced that Ridley would be deported to Istanbul, but during transit, she vanished. Her current location is unknown, and no official confirmation has been published.
Concerns have been raised over her treatment. Sources say she faced “aggressive” and “intimidating” handling while detained. She was granted consular access shortly before her disappearance.
Ridley is not new to dramatic confrontations. She first rose to prominence after being captured by the Taliban in 2001 when reporting from Afghanistan. Later, she became known for her vocal advocacy for Palestinian rights, often appearing on media platforms and speaking at related events.
Her disappearance amplifies international concerns about press freedoms, detention practices, and the safety of humanitarian actors involved in Gaza-related missions. Many demand swift clarification from Israeli authorities and protection for media personnel in conflict zones.
