The disappearance of journalist Sibusiso Aserie Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Precious Mdhluli has entered its 75th day, prompting renewed efforts and increased pressure on law enforcement to resolve the case.
The couple was last seen on February 18, 2025, departing their home in Mpumalanga in a white Volkswagen Citi Golf. Since then, there has been no trace of them or their vehicle. The lack of progress has led to growing frustration among their families and the media community.
In response, the National Press Club (NPC) and the African Media and Communicators Forum (AMCF) have doubled the reward for information leading to the couple’s whereabouts, increasing it from R50,000 to R100,000. They have also called on National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola to personally intervene in the investigation, citing concerns over the slow pace and lack of communication from the police.
Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Kenny Morolong, described the disappearance as an “attack on media freedom,” emphasizing its implications for democracy. He noted that the investigation is at an advanced stage, with collaboration between Mpumalanga and Gauteng police departments.
The couple’s families remain hopeful for their safe return and urge anyone with information to come forward. The increased reward aims to incentivize the public to assist in bringing closure to this distressing case
