April 29, 2025The 3rd edition of the Mediterranean Agora for Journalism is taking place from April 28 to 30, 2025, in Marseille, France. Organized by Journalisme & Citoyenneté, this event brings together journalists, media professionals, and civil society actors to discuss the future of journalism in Africa and the Mediterranean region.
Key Themes and Events
- Opening Evening (April 28): Held at the MUCEM, this session titled “Syria, A Time for Hope?” explores the challenges and prospects of reporting on Syria. Translations are available in French, English, and Arabic.
- Second Evening (April 29): At the Palais du Pharo, the focus shifts to “Decolonizing Information, An Alibi or a Necessity?” discussing the importance of decolonizing media narratives. This session also offers translations in French, English, and Arabic.
- Closing Evening (April 30): Taking place at La Friche Belle de Mai, the final session titled “Gaza, Reporting Despite Everything?” addresses the complexities of reporting from conflict zones like Gaza. Translations are provided in French and Arabic.
Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Awards
As part of its commitment to Media and Information Literacy, the Agora features two awards:
- MIL Prize: Recognizes completed or ongoing initiatives in media literacy from the MENA region and Sub-Saharan Africa.
- MIL Grant: Supports the development of new media literacy projects in the same regions.
Winners receive €1,500 and will present their projects at the Palais du Pharo on April 30.
Additional Activities
The Agora also includes workshops, debates, and a research session titled “How do changes in economic, social, and political spaces in the various Mediterranean countries redefine the challenges of information media independence,” held at Aix-Marseille University on April 28.
