In a significant move to support the media community, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced the allocation of 3,200 residential plots to journalists across the province. This initiative, described as the largest of its kind in Punjab’s history, aims to provide secure housing for media professionals and underscores the government’s commitment to journalists’ welfare.
The decision was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Punjab Information Ministry and the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA), facilitating the land transfer for the Journalist Housing Scheme Phase II in Lahore. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the allocation process would be merit-based and adhere strictly to legal requirements, ensuring transparency and fairness.
Information Minister Azma Bokhari highlighted that this initiative is part of the broader “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” program, reflecting the government’s dedication to improving the living standards of journalists. She stated that the provision of housing is not a favor but a rightful entitlement for journalists, recognizing their vital role in society.
The project also addresses longstanding issues, such as the resolution of the F-Block complications in the Lahore Press Club Housing Scheme, ensuring smoother implementation of the housing plan.
This landmark initiative marks a new benchmark in journalists’ welfare in Punjab, aiming to provide stable housing solutions and acknowledging the essential contributions of media professionals to the democratic process
