In a significant development, Khairpur police have arrested five individuals in connection with the murder of journalist Allah Dino Shar, also known as A.D. Shar, who worked for an Urdu news channel. The incident occurred in Aliabad, within the jurisdiction of Thari Mirwah police station, leading to protests by the local community and media workers across Khairpur district.
The arrested suspects include Niaz Badami (the main accused), Waqas Channa, Fahim Channa, Ahad Channa, and Naeem Channa. During initial interrogations, the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime. Fahim Channa allegedly planned the murder, while Niaz Badami provided the sharp-edged knife used in the attack. The suspects claimed that the motive behind the murder was an attempt by A.D. Shar to establish an illicit relationship with Fahim Channa’s sister.
In response to concerns over impartiality, Khairpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Samiullah Soomro removed Investigation Officer Ashiq Dasti from the case, as the main suspect, Niaz Badami, shared the same caste as Dasti. This decision was made to ensure transparency and fairness in the investigation.
Khairpur Union of Journalists’ president, Syed Ubaid Shah Jilani, commended the police for their swift action in apprehending the suspects. He also urged the authorities to consider the possibility that A.D. Shar had been reporting on local drug mafias, which had previously threatened him, as a potential motive for the murder.
The police have registered a case against the five suspects under various sections, including murder and conspiracy, at Thari Mirwah police station. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are committed to ensuring justice is served.
