India’s Punjab and Haryana High Court acquitted Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the 2002 murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati, overturning a 2019 life sentence issued by a special CBI court. Chhatrapati, editor of Poora Sach, had reported on sexual abuse allegations against Ram Rahim at his Dera Sacha Sauda sect. The High Court cited investigative weaknesses and inconsistencies in evidence as reasons for the acquittal, though convictions of three associates were upheld.
