Veteran golf broadcaster Jimmy Roberts has been named the 2026 Tim Rosaforte Distinguished Journalist Award recipient, recognising his long-standing contribution to golf journalism and media excellence, organisers announced ahead of this year’s Cognizant Classic in Fowler, Indiana. The accolade is one of the sport’s most prestigious media honours and celebrates lifetime achievement in golf reporting and broadcasting.
Roberts, a seasoned on-air personality with decades of experience covering professional golf for major outlets including NBC Sports and the Golf Channel, will be presented the award during tournament week in June. Selection criteria for the Tim Rosaforte Award emphasise sustained excellence across multiple platforms — television, radio, print, and digital — and a demonstrable impact on how the game is communicated to fans and wider audiences.
The award is named after Tim Rosaforte, the beloved golf writer and broadcaster whose career spanned several decades and included work for Golf Digest, Sports Illustrated, and numerous televised events. Rosaforte was known for his deep knowledge of the game, industrious reporting style, and warm personality, qualities the award seeks to honour in its honorees. Having passed away in 2022, his legacy continues through this annual recognition of journalistic excellence.
Roberts’s career highlights include hosting Golf Channel’s flagship news and interview shows, covering major championships such as The Masters and The Open Championship, and conducting probing interviews with players, coaches, and industry figures. Colleagues and industry figures have lauded Roberts for his professionalism, deep familiarity with the sport’s history, and ability to connect with audiences across generations.
In announcing the award, members of the selection committee emphasised Roberts’s role in elevating golf coverage through insightful commentary, thoughtful analysis, and dedication to storytelling, noting that his work has helped shape how the sport is presented to both dedicated fans and casual viewers. Previous recipients of the Tim Rosaforte Award include respected journalists and broadcasters who similarly made enduring contributions to golf media.
Roberts expressed gratitude for the honour in a brief statement, calling it “a tremendous privilege” to be recognised alongside peers and predecessors whose work he has admired throughout his career. He also paid tribute to Rosaforte’s influence on the profession, saying the award’s namesake exemplified the best qualities of golf journalism.
The Cognizant Classic, a stop on the PGA TOUR Champions, will host the award presentation during tournament week, bringing golf players, media professionals, and fans together to acknowledge Roberts’s achievements and the broader role of journalism in promoting the sport.
