Journalists covering an illegal settler attack in Talfit, south of Nablus in the occupied West Bank, were shot at by Israeli forces while reporting on the escalating violence. The incident occurred on Friday, February 13, 2026, as the crew from Al Jazeera documented attacks by armed settlers on Palestinian residents.
Al Jazeera correspondent Tharwat Shaqra said in a live broadcast that Israeli soldiers fired live ammunition directly toward the team, even though the journalists were in a clearly visible, open area and had not been asked to leave. A tear gas canister fired by the forces struck and damaged camera equipment.
The assault happened amid broader clashes marked by settler violence against Palestinians, during which dozens were wounded, and property was damaged. Local reports indicated that Israeli forces provided cover to the settlers and used tear gas and live rounds against both the villagers and members of the press.
All versions note that the Israeli military did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The incident underscores ongoing risks faced by journalists reporting in the occupied West Bank and highlights repeated episodes in which media teams have come under fire while documenting clashes between settlers, Palestinians, and Israeli forces.
