The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released surveillance images of a masked individual wanted in connection with the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of U.S. television anchor Savannah Guthrie, as authorities continue a widespread search in Georgia. The release of the photos marks a major step in the ongoing investigation and aims to generate public tips to help locate the suspect and secure Nancy Guthrie’s safe return.
Nancy Guthrie, a 75-year-old grandmother, was reported missing on 8 February 2026 after failing to board a scheduled flight from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport to visit family in Connecticut. Her disappearance prompted a swift law enforcement response when surveillance footage showed her walking toward a vehicle in the airport’s pick-up zone and then vanishing from view.
Investigators quickly classified the case as an abduction and canvassed nearby traffic and security cameras. On 10 February, the FBI released still images showing a masked individual in a dark outfit believed to be involved in taking Guthrie. The agency said the suspect’s face was obscured but that certain physical characteristics and clothing details might help the public identify the person. Federal agents reiterated a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest, urging witnesses or anyone with relevant information to contact the FBI’s Atlanta office.
Law enforcement also released footage from residential and traffic cameras showing the vehicle suspected to have been used by the abductor shortly before and after Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. Investigators believe the vehicle may have left the Savannah area at high speed, and they are examining license plate readers and other digital leads to track its movements. Agencies involved in the search include the Savannah Police Department, the FBI’s Violent Crime Task Force, and other federal partners.
Savannah Guthrie, co-host of NBC’s Today show, released a public appeal for her mother’s safe return, describing her as a loving and independent person who would never disappear without communicating. In televised remarks, she thanked law enforcement for their efforts and asked the public to remain vigilant. The family has also established a hotline for tips and is coordinating with investigators to share any potential leads.
Authorities emphasised that no arrests have been made and that the investigation remains active, with teams reviewing online leads, witness statements, and enhanced image processing of released footage. Law enforcement officials stressed the importance of community assistance in identifying the masked suspect and urged anyone who saw suspicious activity near the airport on the morning of the disappearance to come forward. As the search continues, the case has drawn significant national attention and highlighted the role of public cooperation in resolving high-profile abduction investigations.
