Documentary Chronicles Love and Resistance Amid War for Journalist and Activist

Two journalists working for Ukraine’s Inter TV network were wounded by Russian bombardment in Kramatorsk on the morning of 9 February 2026, local authorities and media reports confirmed. The incident is the latest in a series of attacks on civilian areas in Ukraine’s east as the Russian invasion continues into its third year.
Regional military officials reported that the shelling struck neighbourhoods in and around Kramatorsk, a key city in the Donetsk Oblast that has endured repeated strikes due to its strategic location near front-line positions. Among those caught in the strike were two Inter TV crew members who were covering developments at the time of the attack. Both journalists sustained injuries and were promptly transported to a local medical facility for treatment. Their conditions were described as stable but serious, with one reporter reportedly hit by shrapnel and another suffering blast-related trauma.
Officials from the Donetsk Regional Military Administration confirmed the injuries and condemned the shelling, stating that residential buildings, infrastructure, and non-combatants had once again been targeted. Regional leaders reiterated that Russia’s continued artillery and missile attacks on populated areas demonstrate a disregard for civilian safety and international humanitarian norms. Ukraine’s leadership has repeatedly called on global partners to increase support for frontline towns like Kramatorsk, which have borne the brunt of sustained assaults.
The targeted journalists were part of a news crew reporting on local resistance efforts and the humanitarian situation when the barrage began. Their injuries underline the persistent danger faced by media workers in conflict zones, where front-line reporting often places them at risk of being caught in indiscriminate or targeted strikes. International and Ukrainian press freedom organisations have previously highlighted the heightened vulnerability of journalists covering the war, urging stronger protective measures and accountability for attacks on non-combatants.
Local emergency responders and volunteers assisted in evacuating the injured journalists and other civilians from the strike area. Residents described the scene as chaotic, with sirens and explosions audible across several districts as authorities worked to provide aid and assess damage. The shelling led to temporary disruptions in communication and transport, though officials stated that critical services were being restored as swiftly as possible.
This attack on media personnel comes amid broader efforts by Ukrainian authorities to document and publicise Russian military operations, even as such coverage continues to pose grave risks to journalists and civilians alike. The wounded Inter TV journalists are expected to recover, according to medical sources, but their injuries highlight the ongoing hazards for those reporting from active combat zones in eastern Ukraine.
