Sudan Journalist Executed After RSF Seizes El-Fasher

Palestinian photojournalist working to document life and suffering in Gaza was killed in an Israeli drone strike in Khan Younis. The strike took place in a zone that, under the terms of a ceasefire brokered in October, was supposed to be outside active combat areas.
The fatal attack was swiftly condemned by the Gaza Government Media Office (GMO), which announced that Wadi’s death raised the documented number of journalists killed in Gaza to 257 since the war began.
According to the GMO, the casualty count reflects what amounts to a systematic campaign of targeting media professionals. Their statement described the killings as deliberate assassination of journalists, holding not only Israeli forces but also governments supporting the military campaign responsible.
Journalist colleagues and human-rights advocates mourned Wadi as a dedicated image-maker known for his humanitarian work. His death marks another painful blow to independent journalism in Gaza at a time when local reporters have become the last remaining sources of firsthand documentation inside the besieged territory.
Wadi’s killing adds to a grim tally that makes the Gaza conflict the deadliest in modern history for media workers. According to multiple records compiled since October 2023, more journalists and media staff have been killed in this war than in any other conflict since 1992.
Wadi’s loss underscores the fragile — and increasingly endangered — role of those who risk everything to document the truth under fire. His death will likely reverberate across the global press-freedom community as a symbol of what’s at stake for journalism in Gaza and a call for accountability and protection for all media workers covering the war.
