Al Jazeera Media Network has secured a string of prestigious awards, including its first-ever International Emmy Award, underscoring the network’s global influence and journalistic impact in 2025.
At the 53rd International Emmy Awards held on November 24, 2025, in New York, Gaza: Search for Life — the episode of the Arabic-language series The Story Continues (in Arabic, “للقصة بقية”) — won the Emmy in the News category. Selected against 64 international nominees, Al Jazeera stood out as the only Arab network to reach the final shortlist this year.
The award-winning episode began production on October 8, 2023 — in the early days of the war in Gaza — and revisits the stories of five Gazans whose lives were defined by danger yet driven by commitment: municipality workers, civil defence and emergency teams, hospital and medical staff, and on-the-ground humanitarian personnel. The documentary offers a raw, humanizing portrayal of resilience and survival under circumstances of widespread destruction.
In his reaction to the win, Asef Hamidi, Director of Al Jazeera News Channel, described the Emmy as “a real and international acknowledgement that truthful, authentic and direct coverage was on Al Jazeera’s screen despite all the accusations thrown at the network.” Meanwhile Fairouz Ziani, presenter and supervisor of “The Story Continues”, dedicated the accolade to “the souls of journalists who relentlessly covered the truth regardless of the cost,” stressing that at Al Jazeera, “the truth is our compass, and humanity is at the heart of every story we tell.”
Beyond the Emmy, Al Jazeera Media Network also won key honours at the Anthem Awards — the initiative Targeting Journalists is a Crime took home two Gold Awards in the Human Rights & Civil Liberties categories (Best Global Awareness Campaign and Best Special Project), as well as the Bronze Shorty Impact Award.
These successes reflect how Al Jazeera continues to leverage documentary journalism and advocacy to spotlight human suffering, peace, justice, and the protection of press freedom worldwide.
