
Global Gathering on Media Freedom Join “Voices” in Florence
October 30, 2025The Al Jazeera Media Institute (AJMI) will host a remote seminar titled “To Be a Journalist in Sudan… A Seminar for Sudanese Journalists at Home and Abroad” on December 23, 2025, at 6 p.m. Doha time. The event is designed for Sudanese journalists working inside the country, in exile, as well as individuals interested in journalism in the Sudanese context.
The seminar will feature a panel of distinguished Sudanese journalists, including Noon Al‑Barmaki (independent journalist), Al‑Tahir Al‑Mardi (correspondent for Al Jazeera in Sudan), Mohammed Saeed Halfawi (Sudanese journalist), and Ashwaq Saif Al‑Din (Sudanese journalist working for TRT Arabic). The session will be moderated by Tasneem Dahab of AJ+ Arabic.
The initiative is framed as part of AJMI’s broader commitment to supporting Sudanese journalists who face significant challenges, whether working within Sudan or from abroad. It will serve as a forum for dialogue and experience sharing on professional practices, journalistic ethics, the role of media in fact-reporting, and the defence of press freedom under adverse conditions.
