At the recent 2025 WA Media Awards held in Perth, journalists from Seven West Media delivered a dominant performance by securing 13 awards across multiple categories.
On television, the network’s team from 7NEWS Perth swept every category. Political Editor Geof Parry was honoured as a co-winner of the West Australian Journalist of the Year award, while the print team at The West Australian secured the Best News Photograph for the third consecutive year.
In the print and digital space, several standout achievements were noted. State Political Editor Jessica Page took home the Beck Prize for her probing reporting on the leadership challenge faced by Libby Mettam within her party. Medical reporter John Flint was awarded for his investigative expose of malpractice in the dental industry, which drew attention from the Australian Taxation Office and health regulators.
Digital teams also made their mark when Head of Digital Production Natalie Bonjolo and Chief Reporter Ben Harvey earned the Multimedia News Prize for their true-crime podcast series on the 1999 disappearance of Kalgoorlie woman Lisa Govan.
In photography and text formats, the awards were widespread: photographer Ross Swanborough won Best News Photograph; regional photographer Stuart Quinn of the Geraldton Guardian claimed honours for regional photography; sub-editor Paul Barry secured Best Headline; reporter Caitlyn Rintoul won Best News Report for her story on failures in violence support systems; and news editor Justin Bianchini received the Suburban Feature award for his work on domestic crisis coverage.
Reflecting on the success, Editor-in-Chief Christopher Dore praised the diverse talents across platforms for “telling the stories that matter.” Meanwhile, 7NEWS Perth News Director Christien de Garis said the awards “recognise the strength and quality of journalism” within the organisation.
Overall, the 2025 WA Media Awards underscored Seven West Media’s broad excellence in journalism across television, print, digital, and photography.
