At a “Together for Palestine” concert on September 18 at Wembley Arena, Mehdi Hasan addressed a crowd of around 13,000 people with a forceful speech accusing Western media of abandoning its duty to truth in Gaza. Hasan, CEO and editor-in-chief of Zeteo, described how mainstream outlets have misled, manipulated, and gaslit the public for nearly two years by failing to adequately spotlight the suffering and sacrifice of Palestinian journalists.
Hasan said that while many call for increased access for foreign journalists, the real stories are already being told by Palestinian reporters on the ground—many of whom have paid the ultimate price. He said that 270 Palestinian journalists have been killed during the ongoing violence in Gaza—a death toll greater than that of journalists in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Iraq War combined. These deaths, Hasan asserted, are not accidents or collateral damage but part of an intentional campaign to silence them.
He named several of the slain, like Anas al-Sharif, Husam Shabbat, Maryam Abu Daka, Roshi Shiraj, Bilal Jadullah, and Muhammad Abu Hattab (who died alongside members of his family), stressing that many more will never be acknowledged by large international media platforms. During the speech, he held Western journalists to account—with “Shame on those Western journalists who have not uttered a single word about the mass killing of their Palestinian counterparts.”
Hasan led the audience in a powerful chant: “You can’t bomb the truth away.” He urged all listeners to honor fallen journalists by speaking up—not with fear or silence, but with courage and resistance. He closed by affirming, “You will not silence Gaza. You will not silence Palestine. You will not silence the truth. And one day, Palestine will be free.”
The Wembley gathering—which combined fundraising for Palestine with demands for justice—ended in a standing ovation. Hasan left the audience with a message of solidarity, mourning the loss but insisting that truth survives those who report, even if they are killed.
