The Palestinian Journalists Forum has strongly condemned an Israeli airstrike that targeted the offices of two Yemeni newspapers, 26 September and Al-Yemen. According to local reports, the assault killed and injured several journalists, along with several civilians and passersby in the vicinity of the buildings. The Forum described the attack as a deliberate war crime against the press, intended to silence voices and obstruct the flow of truth.
In a statement carried by the Yemen News Agency, the Forum said that striking media offices is part of a systematic pattern of violence against journalists across the region. It drew a direct connection between the assault in Yemen and ongoing attacks on Palestinian journalists in Gaza, arguing that both are part of a broader campaign to suppress Arab journalism and distort narratives surrounding the conflicts.
The Forum emphasised that international law explicitly protects journalists and media institutions during times of war. By targeting newspaper offices, the statement argued, Israel violated these principles and demonstrated disregard for human rights conventions that safeguard the press. The group stressed that such actions not only endanger individuals but also deprive the public of access to accurate reporting from conflict zones.
Calling on Arab and international journalist unions, as well as global media rights organisations, the Forum urged immediate solidarity with Yemeni and Palestinian journalists. It demanded coordinated efforts to create protective mechanisms for reporters and press institutions, alongside legal pressure to hold Israel accountable for repeated violations.
The incident underscores the increasing vulnerability of journalists and newsrooms in conflict zones. The targeting of 26 September and Al-Yemen is not an isolated act but part of a dangerous escalation against media workers in the region. For the Forum, defending journalism is inseparable from defending truth and justice, and international action is urgently needed to prevent further crimes.
