September 8, 2025The Greek National Tourism Organization has greenlit two familiarization (“fam”) trips aimed at boosting tourism through dedicated media coverage. One such trip brings German journalists to Thassos, while the other invites Cypriot journalists to Lesvos.
These fam trips are strategic efforts to showcase the attractions of Thassos and Lesvos, encouraging influential travel media to experience them firsthand—resulting in richer, more authentic storytelling that entices potential visitors. Such trips are standard practice in tourism marketing to spark fresh articles, social media features, and broadcast spots, ultimately influencing travel decisions.
- Thassos: Known as the “Emerald Island,” it’s prized for its verdant mountainous landscapes, crystal-clear Aegean waters, and archaeological treasures like ancient marble quarries and mosaics. Such features make it a compelling destination for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and beachgoers alike.
- Lesvos: Renowned for its olive oil production, therapeutic hot springs, and vibrant cultural life, Lesvos also holds UNESCO status for its unique Petrified Forest. The island offers a blend of wellness, agritourism, and rich heritage experiences.
By spotlighting these Greek islands through press coverage, organizers aim to revitalize visitor interest and diversify tourism flows—especially post-pandemic. Targeted trips like these help spread the word across different markets—in this case, German and Cypriot—tailoring promotion to cultural and geographic affinities.
