Michigan television station 9&10 News received several honors at the annual Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB) Broadcast Excellence Awards, with the station earning recognition across news, sports, commercial production, and weather reporting categories.
The awards ceremony took place in Detroit on May 16, where the broadcaster collected seven awards and additional finalist nominations recognizing work produced throughout 2025. The Michigan Association of Broadcasters presents the awards annually to celebrate excellence in journalism, broadcasting, and media production across the state.
Among the station’s top honors, anchor and reporter David Lyden and videographer Josh Monroe won Best News Series for their investigative project, Unsolved. The pair also received the Best News Special award for The Last Voyage: Remembering the Edmund Fitzgerald, a documentary examining the impact of the famous shipwreck on the families of the 29 crew members who died when the vessel sank in Lake Superior in 1975. The production involved extensive travel across Michigan and months of archival and interview work.
Josh Monroe also earned a Merit award in the Photojournalist category and shared a Best Sports Feature or Series award with reporter Megan Huiskens for coverage involving the East Jordan Shoe Club’s meeting with Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. Huiskens described the recognition as her first MAB award.
The station’s creative and promotional teams also received recognition. Morgan Burke-Beyers won Best Commercial for Little Traverse Bay Bands: Violence and Abuse and earned an additional Merit award for promotional work connected to the station’s Beyond the Forecast series. Former weather forecaster John Gross received a Merit award in the Meteorologist category.
9&10 News was additionally named a finalist in the Best Newscast category for its coverage of the March 2025 ice storm that affected northern Michigan. The station later received four Emmy nominations tied to projects including Unsolved, The Last Voyage, and coverage of veterans participating in a Mid-Michigan Honor Flight.
Station representatives said the awards reflected the efforts of newsroom staff, digital teams, producers, and photographers working across northern Michigan. Media managers also noted that regional journalism continues to play a significant role in documenting community stories, investigative reporting, and public-interest coverage throughout the state.
